Scheme to drive you home safely set to expand

A private transport company designed to provide a chauffeur to get people home safe after a night out is set to expand. HomeSafe provides a professional driver to take people home in their own car and the driver uses a foldable electric motorcycle packed in the trunk to return to base after the customer is dropped off. HomeSafe Bermuda plans to add four new electric mini-motorcycles to the one already operational with vans as back-up. The company said it would also move from a membership-only service to an open-caller system. The company’s spokeswoman Zina Edwards Malcolm said that Carlton Crockwell, a former chairman of the Bermuda Road Safety Council and chief operating officer of Security Associates, launched the service last year after Bermuda Security Group brought the concept, based on a model in Cayman, to Bermuda. Ms Edwards Malcolm said: “We knew that Bermuda had an issue with driving impaired or driving while tired, which is equally dangerous. “There is also a significant number of drivers who have issues driving at night. “It seems to be something that is very salient to Bermuda’s driving population particularly with what Drive For Change, Cada, A Piece of the Rock and the Road […]

New service to get drivers home in own car

A new service designed to get people home safe in their own cars is to be launched in a first for Bermuda. HomeSafe — part of security firm Security Associates headed by former Road Safety Council head Carlton Crockwell — aims to provide drivers a way to get home after a night out without risking their licence, their safety or the safety of other road users. Dr Crockwell explained trained and uniformed Security Associates operatives will use fold-up mini-motorbikes to arrive a pre-arranged time and place, collapse the bike, store it in the vehicle, drive the customers home and return to HomeSafe’s base in St John’s Road, Pembroke, on their bikes. He said HomeSafe already had one bike on the island and the service had been trialled quietly for a year to ensure the system would run smoothly. Dr Crockwell added the service was based on a similar one set up by a Cayman Islands-based affiliate of Security Associates’ sister firm Bermuda Security Group. He said: “We came up with idea because I saw so many accidents and I wanted to make sure people got home safe. “If we get people home safe, the chances of hitting something or someone […]

Celia Correia works the 4 p.m. to midnight shift at HSBC Harbour View, a high responsibility position in a major bank, where alarms go off daily. She began with Security Associates in May, with no previous history in security, and has quickly shown her worth in such a short period of time. Manager, Freedom Burrows, would like to recognize her for showing initiative. She’s gone above and beyond her usual duties, finding information required for clients. Ms. Correia continues to do an excellent job ensuring all runs smoothly at her current location and Security Associates would like to highlight these achievements.

Meet Richard Zuill

After 41 years working for the Bank of Bermuda as a Mortgage Officer, Mr. Zuill took early retirement. Not long after, while shopping at Gorham’s, he was approached by Mr. Carlton Crockwell, CEO of Security Associates. Their friendly encounter led to an interview and he was soon recruited as a Security Officer. Mr. Zuill went on to represent the team at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for four years and then moved to the XL building for another three. While he’s really enjoyed working with the group over the past seven years, the time has come for him to return to his retirement plans. First assignment, a trip to El Paso Texas with his lovely wife in honour of their 44th wedding anniversary.
